The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.Having a handicap index allows golfers to participate in more events (those that require a handicap index), have a measurable means of tracking improvement, and allows score adjustments to even the playing field when playing with golfers of different skill levels.
All EWGA members have the opportunity to obtain an official USGA Handicap Index through the EWGA Handicap System (GN21) at no additional cost. Every member who is playing well enough to keep score is encouraged to obtain a Handicap Index through GN21.Powered by GolfNet, GN21 is a full featured system that enables all members to obtain an official USGA handicap. It also gives members the ability to:
· Post Scores
· Access 20,000+ golf course profiles
· Track personal game statistics
· Print a handicap card
· View scoring history
· Attest scores for other members
· Communicate with other members,
and more AND best of all, it’s free to all EWGA members!
EWGA members are invited to activate their GN21 account:
1. Go to www.ewga.com
2. Login to the member’s area by clicking on MEMBER LOGIN at the top of the screen
3. Type in your email address and your password. If this is your first time visiting the Member’s area your password will be “Password1”
4. Click on handicap in the left-hand column and you will automatically enter your GN21 account
It takes a minimum of five rounds and a revision period to establish a handicap. Ultimately, your handicap will be based on the best 10 out of the last 20 rounds of golf you played.
Once you establish a handicap, you will use Equitable Stoke Control (ESC) to adjust scores you post. Your handicap is not harmed or made worse by having a blowup hole or two. Handicapping is all about your scoring potential. There is no limit to the number of individual holes on which an ESC reduction can be made. You would post based on the table below:

The Role of the Chapter Handicap Chair
Your Handicap Chair is your source for any issues regarding your handicap and GN21. She can delete a score that was posted in error and can show you how to use GLMS. She is able to access your profile page and help you with corrections. At the time of your Chapter Championship, she will verify your handicaps and assist with the tournament. It is her responsibility to keep the integrity of the members’ handicaps and to assist in peer review from time to time. To contact your handicap chair, email Marianne Meola at mmeola4145@aol.com or by calling 239-671-6237. |
